On September 18, a ceremony was held in the Yangpu Workspace to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the Shanghai Operation Center and the founding of SHANGHAI MU PROMOTIONS CO., LTD. MU Group President Tom Tang, Group leaders Eric Zhuang, Ken Huang, as well as Shanghai colleagues and participants from the 93rd and 94th sessions of MU Academy’s advanced training program attended the event.
During the signing ceremony, Tom Tang and Jason Wu, General Manager of Transcend, signed the agreement, marking the start of a new phase for the Shanghai business. After the signing, Tom Tang, Eric Zhuang, Ken Huang, and Jason Wu cut the ribbon together, symbolizing the hope that SHANGHAI MU PROMOTIONS, like its name, will navigate through cycles and uncertainties.
Jason Wu then delivered a speech. Reflecting on seven years of growth from scratch, SHANGHAI MU PROMOTIONS will leverage its supply chain advantages to provide all-channel online and offline commercial gifting services for leading global brands and emerging brands. In Shanghai, an international metropolis, the team will focus on building its “big IP + technology” core business to help MU Group become China’s first all-category supply chain management enterprise going global.
Cindy Liu, Senior Manager and Head of Team A of SHANGHAI MU PROMOTIONS, shared her thoughts as the first company to settle in the park, highlighting the challenges faced and the team’s resilience in expanding operations. Allen Ji, Director Manager of Team D of FREE MARKET, expressed his confidence in future business goals as a graduate of the first session of MU Academy’s Advanced Training Course, hoping to achieve mutual success with the academy.
Davy Shi, Senior Director of EUROPEAN UNION DIVISION OF MU (1931), reflected on the journey of the past seven years, from the efforts of a few to the contributions of many. Jacky Zhou, General Manager of BRIGHT MAX, remarked that despite the challenges of departing clients, changing suppliers, and resigning colleagues, these changes have driven MU toward better development.
In his concluding remarks, President Tom Tang recounted how, 120 years ago, his great-grandfather engaged in small-scale trade along the Shanghai-to-Vladivostok route, marking the company’s earliest connection to Shanghai. Summarizing the past 20 years of MU’s success, he emphasized that the company has always focused on markets, products, customers, and business models rather than individual leaders. Despite initial doubts, MU Shanghai has survived and thrived. In the era of digitalization, disintermediation in goods trade is inevitable, offering the company new opportunities to sell directly to global retailers, including e-commerce platforms. The Group’s overseas retail business will be the sole strategic focus for the next decade. In this era of excess goods, the company faces new challenges regarding organizational structure, incentive systems, and business models. Only by becoming stronger can MU continue to prosper in a competitive market.
At the end of the ceremony, Group leaders took commemorative photos with all Shanghai Operation Center colleagues and participants of the 93rd and 94th sessions of MU Academy. Believing is seeing, and “Little Ningbo” is poised to achieve great things in “Big Shanghai,” continuing MU’s legacy along the banks of the Huangpu River!
